Racism hot and fresh out of the oven

February 8, 2009
By contributing hater, Little Nightowl in the Big City.

Fellow black people, I urge you to find a pillow before you read this because you’re going to need something either to scream into or punch that won’t make your knuckles bleed. And you WILL punch something.

There is a bakery in Greenwich Village that sells–I kid you not–Drunken Negro Cookies. Watch the video here and keep a barf bag close at hand.

The cookies, also known as Drunken Negro Heads, were a creation of  Lafayette French Pastry baker Ted Kefalinos. The bakery is pretty well known and its sweets have even been featured on shows such as “Sex and the City.” However, I doubt Carrie Bradshaw would admit to pounding pavement in her Manolos for these. Kefalinos meant to recognize President Barack Obama as following in the footsteps of  Abraham Lincoln in that “he will get his.”

These will be a hit at the annual KKK bake off. They'll do even better in hell.

These will be a hit at the annual KKK bake-off.

Let’s see…big nose, big lips, blood shot eyes…I’m surprised this batch fell short of sporting peanut butter do-rags, sprouting legs and chasing Tom and Jerry out of his bakery with a push broom. And it doesn’t even look like what a cookie is supposed to do: TASTE GOOD. This is unbelievably insulting. You might as well have called it a “mamwich.”

This is a level of racism so blatant, so powerful that it could probably cause blindness yet, in some twist of fate, reverse Stevie Wonder’s blindness and allow him to see. Unfortunately, the first thing he would see is the cookie and instantly go blind again.

Stevie Wonder

Probably the only day I wished I could be like him for something other than his musical talent.

By the way if you’re trying to Google this guy and voice your disapproval you can rest easy knowing that the good people of NYC have already done it for you–in the form of death threats. He has since issued an apology and according to a follow up interview on Fox seen here said he would like to be forgiven for his mistake in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. Personally, I would like to think Dr. King was too busy rolling around in his grave to hear that request.

Damn it. If your knuckles are not bleeding yet, they should be.

What a terrible person. This very stupid man deserves his business to flop. I wish the worst for him because of his racist ways.

That apology means nothing. He was very bold in his actions and didn’t even consider any type of negative recourse until he started receiving threats of non-patronage and death. The white patrons interviewed didn’t appear to agree with his actions nor did they appear to think it was comical. These very actions ignite race wars,in fact it will legitimize stereo types that some people may have had before. If I were to own a bakery, and decided based on what I see on any given weekend night and came up with a recipe for “Drunken Fratboy Cracka Crackers” there would be protesters outside of my shop, a noose outside my door and a malitov through my window. I deal with people as individuals and if it is worth my time try to educate the unknowing and yield not to the ignorant, regardless of my Black East NY roots and the adversity and racism I encountered in Bay Ridge, Howard Beach, Middle Village and so on. This type of behavior shows that society has not changed much since these type of acts were common place and we as individuals have to make changes in ourselves and what we teach our children before our society will get any better.

What this baker did was unconscionable, but is making death threats the way to go? I hardly think that would do anything to stop Dr. King’s grave-spins.

Wishing the man to be completely deprived of any livelihood whatsoever is hardly a very charitable response, either. Let people who aren’t bothered by it shop there and do your own shopping elsewhere.

    um… really? THEY ARENT GOOD???

    well that sucks.

His business will go under not because of his absolutely INCREDIBLE cookie design and name, but the fact the cookie tastes like shit. I wonder if he took his racism too far.. and really conjured up all his resentments, his bitter anger and hatred.. basically how he REALLY feels about ‘negros’ and concocted the taste of his cookie.

that’s gotta be some poor business planning. Last time I checked, people purchased baked goods that actually tasted good.. or has society as I know deterioated so much that people will pay to eat their racism?

Commercialism at a whole new level.

I meant to add this to my comment. To the author of this article I want to say something concerning the mention of “fellow black people”

I’m white and this seriously angers me that mean spirited stupid people like that baker can make us all look bad.

I just want you to know that a lot of us white people who love our black fellow man are just as furious as you.

    Dear QB;

I wouldn’t want to deprive any one of their livelihood. In the case of this baker, I believe his business he used as the vehicle to spread his racism should be his loss for a lesson he needs learn. He makes me very sick and is a danger to America in what we strive to be. At this point in his pathetic and hateful life, I don’t feel he needs anyone’s blessing as far as his business being successful. Let him hit bottom and pull himself back up by those boot straps we hear a lot about and maybe, just maybe, he’ll see a small light.
